TASTING NOTES
Following on from an almost perfect 2016 growing season in Piedmont, 2017 was certainly not as straightforward. 2017 was the driest vintage on record and the earliest picking dates of the last five years however, despite the heat, the wines are surprisingly vivid, fresh with a lovely rich fruit. Rich and elegant floral bouquet of rose and violet. On the palate it is imperious, powerful, elegant, smooth and mouth-filling. Suitable for moderate ageing.
WINEMAKING NOTES
This Barolo of Cascina Ballarin is made from Nebbiolo grapes harvested from three different vineyards in La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, and Novello. The grapes were hand picked and fermented on the skins in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks. The wine aged 26 months in wooden barrels (14 months in French oak barriques, 12 months in bigger Slavonian oak barrels).
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Alberto Ballarin (formerly known as Cascina Ballarin) is a small, family-owned estate located in La Morra (province of Cuneo) in the heart of the Langhe region which has been in the hands of the Viberti family since 1928. The estate is currently managed by Giorgio and his son Alberto. They work in the vineyard and cellar with dedication,
passion and in the pursuit of expressing the Piemonte terroir to the fullest. The 9 hectares of vineyards are mainly located in the precious area of Barolo (7.5 hectares) and partly in the Roero (1.5 hectares).
